deemster makes his debut release and beginning of a new project on Gravitas Recordings March 3rd. Previously known as RUN DMT, this new project is lovingly saturated with trip hop, jungle, turntablism, breaks, and other styles of music that inspired him early on in his career. These brand new tracks have a nostalgic and vintage feel to them, while bringing back the past and pushing the sounds of the future in a whole new way. Recording guitars, drum sounds, foley, and a vintage drum machine to capture the warmth of the late 90s/early 2000’s era of electronic production.
“This record is a love letter to the place where I live and to the kind of music that got me interested in producing in the first place. This project is also a reflection of my love for cinema, as I approach each record like a director approaches a film, where style and atmosphere dictate the creative direction rather than a specific genre. This record is a collection of vibes that have lived in my head rent-free since I was a teenager; trip hop, jungle, breaks, etc were the soundtrack to most of my life and I am thrilled to lay them out on a single project. After heavily influencing the dubstep scene under the moniker RUN DMT, John D Robbins is back better than ever and choosing to revisit the underground bass landscape on his own terms. Today the talented producer has officially unveiled his new project, deemster, alongside a debut album released via Gravitas Recordings in Topsail. As you’ll hear below, this new project is an ode to Collins’ initial inspirations within dance music, as well as his newfound hometown of Topsail, NC. We were lucky enough to sit down with the artist himself to talk about his new album, artistic growth since RUN DMT, and what the future holds for his new sound and project.
