Episode 6 of the Gravitas Podcast comes courtesy of one of Austin’s dopest djs and producers, NickNack.
Nick has been a constant influence and inspiration for myself and Austin. He has literally done it all, from vinyl manipulation on the turntables, to production of unique melodic tracks that hold their own along side masters like DJ Shadow and RJD2, CEO of Crowd Control Records, and owner of Gigacrate.comm, NickNack is a true renaissance man. In his earlier days in the Austin hiphop scenee, he strove to unite the community through 5 years of tireless effort at KVRX’s “Bside Mixshow.” and also co-founded HipHop Mecca in a very successful attempt to put Austin on the map by hosting and deejaying shows with the likes of Hieroglyphics, Organized Konfusion and icons Gangstarr. Nick has also played countless shows with drummer Brannen Temple in the jazz band BLAZE. Nick’s productions have steadily accumulated over the years with successful releases like “Improving Silence” which garnered him international attention, phenomenal sales and several licensing deals. Nick’s 3rd album “Dearly Departed” was released in the summer of 2010 and Nick and I connected with me remixing one of my favorite tunes off the album, “Stolid”. The remix album includes remixes from an all star cast of producers including Ernest Gonzales, Inf, Datahowler, DJ DRM, J Boogie, DJ Apt One, Ruckus Roboticus, DJ Ayres, Ntropy, BoomBaptist, The ARE, B.Cause, Adrian Quesada and Bird Peterson.
This mix is a live recording from a set Nick prepared for a house party. It features a variety of disco boogie tunes ranging from the 1980s all the way up to modern day nu disco with a focus on sensuality.
Lay back and enjoy!
